6th 6 weeks

Wow. I’m almost done! These 6 weeks went by so fast. I feel like I just did the 5th 6 weeks yesterday! I didn’t think that it was going to go by that fast. Only because I usually look at the calendar and count down but this time I didn’t. It’s going to be sad when I leave your class. I looked forward to going to your class a lot because it was fun. I only hope that I can use this as a reference later on in my educational years.

I did a massive amount of work these weeks. I thought I was going to lie down, chill out, and have someone feed me grapes while I was swinging on my hammock. WRONG! I was really wrong at that. I was given so much work that I practically wasn’t able to go to a lot of places like I usually do! I mean I was able to go to some places, but not as much as I usually do. I went to a lot of places with my boyfriend Jairo. It’s been 2 years and 6 months that we have been together. People always ask me if I get bored with him, or unhappy, but I am happy, and you have to find ways to make it fun. It’s not going to be fun if you just sit there and stare. We did things together these past weeks because we don’t usually go any where. We went to eat, the movies, mountain ranges 7 hours from here on a weekend. We went to a church in Sun Ray, Texas. It was so funny because throughout the whole drive to get there, we weren’t sleepy, yeah were going to have fun, its not going to be boring, I can’t wait! But when we got there at the hotel at 3 in the morning, we still weren’t sleepy and they told us to go to sleep because we had church at 8 am but, us being wild things we went to the pool and ran around for an hour. Now me being an early bird, I can sleep for 3 hours and have as much energy as if I slept all night. We went to sleep at 5 because we’re dumb. I knew that all of us weren’t going to want to get up 3 hours later. Well we finally went to sleep, I think I dreamt that we were on a cruise,(yeah that’s the life) having fun, not worrying about school and other things until I hear my alarm and realize that my whole body was sore. It was not fun running around like if I was 4 again. I thought I had that body of a healthy being. Well when you’re Hispanic, that already sets you off the wrong trail. There are so many foods that can get you big if you don’t take care of yourself! Ask my whole family! But anyways we woke up and like I predicted, the majority were still half asleep. I think my boyfriends’ cousin fell asleep eating his cereal. Anyways, we went to the church and we thought that it was going to be an hour long or so, so we were planning out how we were going to go to the pool and have fun. Boy weren’t we wrong, 8 HOURS OF CHURCH. I do not know how I did it. I was the only one that didn’t drift off to sleep! Even my Pastor was getting sleepy!

What a day that was. But otherwise, I think this was the highlight of my 6 weeks. I would do it again if we could. I had homework and a bunch of projects, but I pulled it off. I did well. I won’t be able to do it again. But this blogspot was fun. I can’t wait to show others what I did. Thanks for everything Mr. Detrixhe. You’re one of my favorites!

Jesse James: I'm The Most Hated Man In The World

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Jesse James was dubbed "the most hated man in America" after the allegations that he'd cheated on Sandra Bullock - and in his first sit-down interview since the news broke, he told "Nightline's" Vicki Mabrey that he's hit an even lower point than that.

"I think it's, 'Most hated man in the world,' now," he said self-deprecatingly in a clip from the interview, which airs in full on Tuesday on ABC's "Good Morning America" and "Nightline.""You cheated on your wife," Vicki told him.

"Yup," he responded, adding, "I took a pretty amazing life and marriage and threw it away."During the clip, Jesse became visibly emotional, beginning to tear up and later stepping away from the interview chair.

"Let me take a break for a second," he said.

The interview came in the wake of Sandra's People cover story last month, in which she revealed she'd adopted a son, Louis, and was filing for divorce from Jesse. The former couple wed in 2005.

Analysis: Definition of dumb: Jesse James. How are you going to cheat on a lady who is beautiful, who has won awards, who is Faithful!?!? People these days..men these days. Its so sad that the had to do this in order to fulfill his "needs." I don't think there is such thing as a sex addiction. That's just another excuse. What a wimp for having to take a break. Its his fault that he went with those other "ladies" who aren't even ladies when they let themselves do that. I am so amazed at Sandra. She pulled it off very well. Good she got the divorce. I'm glad her and Louis are beginning to have a normal life together. I hope shes happy later on in life. No regrets. Amen.

BEIJING – The youngest climber to reach the peak of
Mount Everest hugged his tearful companions and told them he loved them. Then 13-year-old Jordan Romero took the satellite phone and called his mom.

He says, 'Mom, I'm calling you from the top of the world,'" a giddy Leigh Anne Drake told The Associated Press from California, where she had been watching her son's progress minute by minute on a GPS tracker online.

"There were lots of tears and 'I love you! I love you!'" Drake said. "I just told him to get his butt back home."

With Saturday's success on the world's highest mountain, at 29,035 feet (8,850 meters) above sea level, Jordan is just one climb from his quest to reach the highest peaks on all seven continents.

The teenager with a mop of long curly hair — who climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa when he was 9 years old — says he was inspired by a painting in his school hallway of the seven continents' highest summits.

"Every step I take is finally toward the biggest goal of my life, to stand on top of the world," Jordan said earlier on his blog.

Before him, the youngest climber to scale Everest had been Temba Tsheri of Nepal, who reached the peak at age 16.

Also Saturday, officials said a Nepalese Sherpa who lives in Salt Lake City broke his own world record by climbing Everest for the 20th time. Apa, who goes by one name, went up to collect garbage, a growing environmental problem on the mountain.

Several climbers took advantage of Saturday's clear weather to reach the summit, Mountaineering Department official Tilak Pandey said. May is the most popular month for Everest climbs because of more favorable weather.

Jordan had never climbed above 8,000 meters (26,240 feet), but his team climbed quickly along the final ridge to arrive at the peak hours ahead of schedule.

"The first thing, they all hugged each other and said, 'I love you, I can't believe we're finally here' and started crying," said Rob Bailey, the team's spokesman, by phone from the United States.

"I don't think it ever dawned on them to say, 'Oh my gosh, Jordan, you're the youngest to get up here,'" Bailey said. "It's never been about setting a record, besting anybody else."

Jordan, from the San Bernardino Mountains ski town of Big Bear, California, was climbing Everest with his father, his father's girlfriend and three Sherpa guides.

Helicopter paramedic Paul Romero and his girlfriend have trained Jordan for top-level mountaineering. Romero and Karen Lundgren are adventure racers, competing in weeklong endurance races that combine biking, climbing, paddling and climbing through wilderness areas.

Before the group set out for Nepal, Paul Romero said he wanted nothing more than to make his son's dreams come true, even as the quest raised questions over how young is too young to scale Everest, a mountain where harsh conditions have caused scores of climbers' deaths.

The group, dubbed "Team Jordan" on the teen's blog, approached the peak along the technically more difficult, less-traveled northern route from the base camp on the Chinese side.

Unlike neighboring Nepal, the other approach to Everest, China has no age limit for climbers. Jordan registered with Chinese officials in April, said Zhang Mingxing, secretary general of China Tibet Mountaineering Association.

No interview with Jordan would be possible until he returns to advance base camp, which could take a couple of days, Bailey said.

Climbers stay overnight at three or four camps before the summit, depending on their route and pace. Jordan's team spent nearly five weeks on the mountain acclimatizing and preparing for Saturday's predawn final climb.

Jordan carried a number of good luck charms, including a pair of kangaroo testicles given to him by a friend who has cancer.

"That's the one that probably meant the most," Bailey said.

At the summit, Jordan left behind his lucky rabbit's foot and planted some seeds that a Buddhist monk at a local monastery had given him for luck on his journey, Bailey said. Then he took the satellite phone and called his mom.

"He's such a good boy and he calls his mom every day," Drake said, laughing, just minutes later.

Drake said her son took two months of homework with him to keep up in school

Jordan continues the recent trend of young adventurers. Earlier this month, 16-year-old Australian Jessica Watson became the youngest person to sail around the globe solo, nonstop and unassisted. Thousands lined Sydney Harbor to cheer as she cruised past the finish line in her pink yacht.

A Dutch court late last year blocked an even younger sailor, 14-year-old sailor Laura Dekker, from pursuing a similar round-the-world voyage, ordering her to prepare more and wait at least until this year before starting.

And in January, 17-year-old Johnny Collinson of Utah became the youngest person to climb the highest peaks on all seven continents.

Just one mountain remains in Jordan's own quest to climb those peaks, the Vinson Massif in Antarctica.

Jordan's team leaves for Antarctica in December, Bailey said.

"A piece of cake," his mother said.

Analysis: Wow. That's so cool. I wish i could do that. I would rather watch someone climb from t.v than me climb it. I wonder how a mural can inspire. I guess its different for everyone. I mean i started painting just so that i can sprinkle salt on it so that it could have a texture. Its different for everyone. Maybe i need to get my passport so that i can do it too. It sounds like fun. But cold too.

Man Banned From Wife's Bedside For Alleged Threat

Fort Worth hospital after a patient's husband was banned. The Hospital, Baylor All Saints, tells CBS 11 the husband threatened staff, but he says the real problem is he doesn't want doctors to remove his wife's toes.
Dwight Wright says the hospital will not listen to his wishes about his wife's care. "They've shut me out of the hospital now and I'm not able to consult with my wife as far as what they're trying to coerce her into doing…. I've asked them, if you want to talk to my wife about surgery, allow me to be in the room."

Wright says he and his family are determined not to let doctors removed part of his wife's foot. Angela Joe Wright has suffered six heart attacks and a stroke since March 19, one day before their 30th wedding anniversary. "I believe the reason why she's still with us is prayer with the Lord." Doctors are concerned over gangrenous skin on her foot. "They say she has dry gangrene and it could, it may, spread to her body."

But Wright says he also has seen this before, and that it's a sensitive subject. "I've told them from the beginning, "That's a touchy thing with my wife's foot. Be sure nothing happens." He says his wife has a slight case of pneumonia and a urinary tract infection, much like she did in 1992. Her other leg was amputated following a cesarean section. That surgery prompted blood clots in her foot that doctors ultimately had to remove.

Wright says they sued the hospital involved for negligence, and simply wants to keep his wife's other foot intact. "Do the least amount to my wife's toes and give her the chance to keep her toes."

Wright and his sister accuse Baylor All Saints staffers of going around them to try and convince Angie Wright to agree to the procedure. "They said, "Oh, she's in her right mind," So I said, "Angie, would you like to go up on the top of roof with me and jump off?" And she said, Umm-hmm" says her sister-in-law Karen Pope.

Pope also believe staffers are mocking their faith. "They don't like preachers or pastors in there praying, and the nurses would just roll their eyes"

But Wright also admits to recently trying to make a point by using the word 'gun' as a metaphor, and things that's why he was banned from the hospital. Baylor All Saints says there was no metaphor, only a threat. ""The individual made a threat to the hospital clinical staff and impeded the patient from making decisions about care. He can call the family and clinical staff. Other family members can visit." HIPPA rules state they cannot comment on Mrs. Wright, for now the family anxiously waits. "It's really hard to see her go through the stuff that she's going through....She's 44" says daughter Molly Joe. "When you think "heart attack" you think 50, 60, 70."

Daughter Olivia simply feels like she caused this. "I've seen her toes and that sucks worse because Im the child she had when she lost her foot."

Wright is filling a grievance with the state, and is talking with a lawyer. He says he would sue the hospital since he has her medical power of attorney.

Angela Wright was moved to Baylor All Saints after Dwight decided he was dissatisfied with treatment she had been receiving at a suburban Fort Worth hospital following the March 19 heart attack.

Analysis: Now if he really cared about his wife, then he would understand that at times things like this happen and there are certain procedures that need to be taken place of. Its not right to see someone suffer just so that you wont suffer. No one wants to see their loved one suffer, i understand that. But to only do it because you don't want to think what she would look like after is wrong. If she has that sickness i would do what ever it takes to make her feel better. Not to have her suffer, but to release that kind of stress.

Mark Cuban: How Mavericks have a chance at LeBron James

08:51 PM CDT on Thursday, May 20, 2010
SportsDayDFW.com

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban sat down to discuss his team and world financial matters with Poppy Harlow in an interview posted on CNNMoney.com this week. Here's what he had to say about the Mavericks' interest in NBA superstar and potential free agent LeBron James.

"Come July 1st, yeah, of course. Anybody would be interested in LeBron James, and if he leaves via free agency, then it's going to be tough. If he does like I'm guessing, hoping he will, which is say 'I'm not going to leave the Cavs high and dry,' if he decides to leave -- there's a better chance he stays -- then he'll try to force a sign-and-trade and that gives us a chance.

"What I do know about LeBron in the minimal time I've spent talking to him is he just wants to win. Money's not his issue. He needs to be some place where he trusts the organization. And look, Dan Gilbert in Cleveland did everything he possibly could, that's just the way the game works. If there was a template that we all could follow, we'd all have championship rings."

Analysis: I only wonder what it would be like if we did have LeBron James. Would it be better or would it be the worse selection. I hope it would do us some good. Ive heard of the stories of his attitude and i hope that that wont affect the team in whole. Its good that money isnt the issue, cause i know that some players in the NBA take it that way. If he finds the team that suits him well, then he will go for it. Good luck LeBron.

5th 6 weeks

Wow. Only 1 more six weeks left. These six weeks was like no other. I only hope to do better than I am now. I would like a GPA of 95, but it’s hard for me to even get a 90! I worked pretty hard and I can’t stop now. I have one more year to raise it up before I get my rankings. Of course I want to graduate in the top 5% with High honors.

These six weeks felt the same as the others except I figured out that my work was going to need to be better. My family expects high of me, I mean my sister graduated with high honors and is at SMU for her first time and was is doing great. She is going for a double major and everyone is proud of her. I only hope I can beat her and get something better. My desire for knowledge is at its highest peak. But with many distractions, it just sits there and waits for me to notice it and use it. All my classes are the same except now I have more work and can’t slack off. A lot of people joke around and say that they have had senioritis since they were in pre-k. Not funny. I did a lot of typing, running, and talking these six weeks. I staring off with tests, and essays, and ending up with the same thing! A few of my classes have been more fun than ever, like in Chemistry. I now love to learn about Acids and Bases. Church hasn’t been a difference. I go on Sunday and after that go to the park or watch a movie. I have been interested in Mythology for a while, but I don’t want to get mixed with that a lot or else it might change my thoughts and beliefs. I like going to the library to sit on the isle floor and read about the Gods and Goddesses in Greek time. Lately we have been doing a lot of fish fries and eating a lot fatty foods which is delicious but not nutritious. We use to have a Mexican seafood restaurant but we sold it because we were tired and wanted to rest, I learned most of my cooking there. We use to make shrimp cocktails, tilapia, red snapper, seafood soups, paella which is a combination of seafood with rice and other great dishes. All of my family would come and take up the whole occupancy space to eat. We as in my mother, father, sister, and brother wouldn’t be able to eat because we were in the back slaving away! My dad is very picky about presentation, he wants everything right. If we got something wrong, he would get upset. But I didn’t care if he yelled at me. Most of the time we have the fish fries on Friday’s after school, and Sunday or Saturday we would make beef soup and rice. Very mexican, very traditional. But its fun to be with the family and I hope we do many more because its fun. I feel like I can do more next six weeks and hope it doesn’t end too bad! Doing this blog spot is fun; I wonder what my binder would look like if I did one.

Charlie Sheen says if TV show ends, " so be it"

Award-winning actor Charlie Sheen has broken his silence on contract renewal talks for his hit TV program, "Two and A Half Men," saying that if his role ends after the program's current season, "so be it."Sheen, who was nominated four times for an Emmy for his role as sex-crazed bachelor Charlie Harper on the CBS show, gave a statement to People magazine on Friday in which he slammed media reports that he was demanding a higher salary."All of the numbers reported in the press are false. Claims from 'inside sources' regarding offers from the studio as well as my salary, on their best day, are without merit," Sheen said in the statement. For years, "Two and A Half Men" has been among the most-watched sitcoms on U.S. television, and losing the program would be a blow to CBS's advertising revenue. One week ago reports surfaced that Sheen, who is currently facing domestic violence charges in Colorado, was seeking as much as $1 million per episode, a substantial raise from his current level of $825,000, to continue on an eighth season. The 44-year-old star's current contract ends after season seven, and the final show is being taped on Friday."If tonight's show is the end for me as Charlie Harper, so be it. Another journey has begun. I take from the experience 161 shows filled with a kaleidoscope of amazing experiences, memories, friendships and gratitude," he said.Last December, the actor was arrested in Aspen, Colorado and later charged with assaulting and threatening his wife, Brooke Mueller. He has pleaded not guilty, and both he and Mueller have entered rehabilitation program.

Analysis:

Now you know how i feel about this man. He needs to stop and think, " Am i ready to start T.V again?" " Do i still need help?" " What can i do to make everything right and not upset anyone anymore?". Those answers should be.... NO YOU ARE NOT READY... YES YOU STILL NEED HELP... and GO GET SOME ANGER CLASSES. Enough said about this guy, he upsets almost everyone, i wouldnt pay him if he still had issues. Hes not ready, needs to leave this world, and come back when he is human again. :)

Stevens " leaves at the top of his game," Obama says

(WASHINGTON) — Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, the court's oldest member and leader of its liberal bloc, he is retiring. President Barack Obama now has his second high court opening to fill.Stevens said Friday he will step down when the court finishes its work for the summer in late June or early July. He said he hopes his successor is confirmed "well in advance of the commencement of the court's next term."His announcement had been hinted at for months. It comes 11 days before his 90th birthday.Stevens began signaling a possible retirement last summer when he hired just one of his usual complement of four law clerks for the next court term. He acknowledged in several interviews that he was contemplating stepping down and would certainly do so during Obama's presidency.Chief Justice John Roberts said in a written statement that Stevens has earned the gratitude and admiration of the American people."He has enriched the lives of everyone at the Court through his intellect, independence, and warm grace," Roberts said. The timing of his announcement leaves ample time for the White House to settle on a successor and Senate Democrats, who control 59 votes, to conduct confirmation hearings and a vote. Republicans have not ruled out an attempt to delay confirmation. The leading candidates to replace Stevens are Solicitor General Elena Kagan, 49, and federal appellate Judges Merrick Garland, 57, and Diane Wood, 59.Stevens' departure will not change the court's conservative-liberal split because Obama is certain to name a liberal-leaning replacement. But the new justice is not likely to be able to match Stevens' ability to marshal narrow majorities in big cases.Stevens was able to draw the support of the court's swing votes, now-retired Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and Justice Anthony Kennedy, to rein in or block some Bush administration policies, including the detention of suspected terrorists following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, its tilt toward protecting businesses from some lawsuits and its refusal to act against global warming.

Analysis:

I think that it is good that he leaves. You can not work yourself to death. There is a time when we all should stop working, and most of the time it is for a good cause. I hope he goes on a vacation and lives in a place where no one will find and bother him. When you are on a leave i think no one should bother you. Good that Mr.Obama said his last good byes. Its nice when you are honored about something. I hope that he can take this retirement and use it wisely, i know i would if i worked for the government that long!

Nowitzki Scores 40, Mavs Win And Clinch Southwest

Dirk Nowitzki scored 40 points, making a key 3-pointer with under three minutes left, and the Dallas Mavericks clinched the Southwest Division with an 83-77 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night.
Nowitzki added 10 rebounds and was 17 for 17 from the free throw line for the Mavericks, who needed both the victory over Portland and a Memphis win over the Spurs. The Grizzlies obliged earlier in the night by winning 107-99 at San Antonio.
Nowitzki hit a 3-pointer with 2:43 left that put Dallas up 77-68 and all but sealed a contentious game that had the sellout crowd at the Rose Garden mercilessly jeering the officials.
LaMarcus Aldridge had 27 points for the Blazers, who had won the three previous meetings with the Mavericks this season.

Analysis:

I hope this year that the Mavericks win. I love watching basketball and it was fun to go to some of their games. I remember my sister went to a few of their games and she took a poster that said," DIRK, MARRY MY MOM" of course my mom didn't say not to bring it. Who would say no the Dirk Nowitzki!? All the girls in my family love him and wouldn't say no to go to his games. My grandfather says that hes a show off and he cant cook, (that's funny because my grandfather cant cook either.) My dad said that he would give Dirk my mom, hes tired of her. And my mom said that she would go with him in a heartbeat. But anyways we love the Mavs, and reading this makes thing championship's hopeful.

Community rallies around Stephenville woman paralyzed in park stabbing

Neighbors and strangers are working together to renovate the home of a woman paralyzed last month when she was stabbed in a Stephenville park. Brandi Todd, 28, of Morgan Mill was attacked from behind March 14 while she watched her children play, and the attack left her with a serious spinal injury. It is unlikely Todd will be able to walk again. Michael Allen Howard, who did not know the victim, was arrested in the attack."It's not the sort of thing you expect in small-town America," family friend Roger Behymer said.About 20 to 25 people from Morgan Mill, Stephenville and other cities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are working on making Todd's home wheelchair-accessible, Behymer said."There's lots of people wanting to help out," he said. "You know, her story has touched a lot of people."

Todd's mother, Denise DeForest, had received calls of consolation and offers of help in her daughter's hospital room, Behymer said, and the family asked him to organize the efforts.Volunteers have been working on the home for a couple of weeks."It seems just wonderful that everybody's helping like they are," said Jerry Packwood, one of Todd's neighbors. Most of the interior work is done, Behymer said, but a new bathroom and a large closet in the master bedroom are still in the works. Some of the renovations include creating a carport and a ramp to the front porch.Behymer said the quickest way people can help out is to donate money to "help her get her life back together."There will be a garage sale for her from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Saturday at 1100 N. McCart St. in Stephenville. And Todd's employer, Schreiber Foods, will hold a picnic fundraiser at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Stephenville City Park, according to www.branditodd.com.Town and Country Bank has also set up a fund where people can donate."It's just a shame that it happened," Packwood said. "It's horrible."

Analysis:

I watched this story on the news, and was surprised that she wasnt hurt one bit with this. It was sad and she was upset but that wasnt the end for her, she kept going and wasnt going to stop and say that her life was over. I fell bad for her children because they were there and saw it when it happpened and if i were there and saw it was would leave me scared and tramatized. Im glad there people are fixing up her home, and

Family History Essay

I’ve know both sides of my parents family pretty well. But during these six weeks, I learned more about my mother’s side than my fathers. My mother’s father is Florentino Pena, her mother is Concepcion Pena. They were both born in Anahuac, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. She has two sisters and two brothers, and she’s the second oldest. All of my grandparent’s children which are my aunts and uncles were either born in Laredo, Texas or Dallas, Texas. At first, I thought that they were all born here in Dallas because this is where they live now. But, my uncle who was born first and my mother who was born second were not born in a hospital. My grandmother had a midwife there at her home in Laredo, Texas. She had my uncle and then went to a lady that wrote birth certificates that were authentic, and legal. The state had certified this lady to write birth certificates. My grandmother then had my mother and she went to this lady again to get her birth certificate. Now when my grandmother went to Dallas, this business with the certified lady was going very slow. She needed money and many people didn’t want to go to her to go get their child’s birth certificate, so this lady went Mexico, started to sell the documents that were already legal in the U.S and made them illegal. Now, this lady sold many certificates and had people cross the border so that they can live here and have freedom. Later on, this lady was caught, she was arrested and had to give up her right to write down certificates and her citizenship.

Later on when my uncle tried to get his passport and they asked for his certificate, they told him that it was fake, and that the lady that “sold it to my grandmother legally” was caught for selling them across the border so, he couldn’t get his passport because they couldn’t figure out whether it was documented before she started selling them across the border or after she did all that. There was no proof that it was real of fake, so they turned him down. When my uncle came and told this to my grandmother, she of course was furious and decided to go all the way to El Paso, Texas and go in front of the judge to solemnly swear that it was real and they had gotten it before the lady went to Mexico to sell them. After that, he was able to get his passport, and now when my mother tried to get hers, they again told her that it was fake and the whole same story came to place, now my mother has to go to El Paso, and do the same thing over again. She hasn’t done it yet but will do it soon.

When I found out this story, I thought they were playing with me at first because they were laughing as they were telling it but then my grandmother who is a full Christian lady told me that it was all of God’s plan so then I knew that it was real. I wouldn’t think something like this would happen to my family, but knowing this world, anything can happen. But what you have to learn is how to fix it.

US HIGH SCHOOLER TAKES 32ND IN SKI JUMPING

WHISTLER, British Columbia - Peter Frenette arrived at Whistler Olympic Park in Callaghan Valley at 8 a.m. Saturday well before most other ski jumpers.
He had to wax his own skis and rip apart a few seams from his ski suit - the same ski suit he personally sewed a few weeks ago while training in Park City, Utah.
Such is life for cash-strapped U.S. ski jumpers, who are not funded by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association"We're the first athletes here every morning because we have to wax our own skis," said Frenette, who turns 18 Wednesday. "Everyone else has people that do everything for them. It'd be a lot easier to focus on just our jumping than, 'I've got to go there and wax my skis and make sure my suit's legal and do all this stuff.'"
Frenette, considered the future of U.S. ski jumping, barely missed the cutoff to advance to the finals in the large hill ski jumping event Saturday. He finished 32nd out of 50 jumpers with a score of 90.6 after soaring 114? meters at a top speed of 92.2 kilometers per hour.
"Definitely regrets," Frenette said. "There's so many little things. You're like, 'OK, if I could have done that, I could have gone a couple meters farther.' It's kind of hard being that close because you know you can be in with the top-30."
Switzerland's Simon Ammann won his fourth career Olympic gold medal by soaring 144 meters in the first round, then 138 meters on his second jump. "Hopefully, next Olympics I'll be right there," said Frenette.
Still, not too shabby for a 17-year-old who a month ago thought his first shot at the Olympics would be 2014 in Sochi.
Despite Frenette never competing in a major international competition or World Cup event, U.S. coach Jochen Dannenberg saw talent in the Saranac Lake, N.Y., native on the Continental Cup circuit. He was the top American during a recent event in Japan and finished 12th at world juniors in Germany last month.
So in late January while training in Austria, Frenette received a call from U.S. Nordic Director John Farra that he was an Olympian.
"It's been really exciting, and kind of intimidating, too, being my first big international competition," Frenette said. "I'm jumping against the best guys and it's definitely a lot harder than other competitions I've been in. But it's a cool experience."
Between world juniors and Olympic training, Frenette returned to his home just outside Lake Placid for two days. He celebrated by catching up on homework - math - because he's been away from school since early January.
But the Olympics make the lofty investment from Frenette's parents worthwhile. Frenette comes from a family full of skiers and his parents, who are school teachers at the same high school he attends, have to work two jobs to support their son's career.
His dad, Peter Sr., a computer teacher by day, does carpentry. His mother, Jennie, a music teacher by day, works at a restaurant.
"It's definitely hard not having any funding," said Frenette. "It's just another thing to worry about when you really don't need to be worrying."
Frenette guesses that between a few donations, sponsorships and his parents own money, he's spent $30,000 since last summer.
"Ten thousand on plane tickets alone," said Frenette, who has taken three trips to Europe and one to South Korea and Japan since last year. "Skis are $1,000. Suits are $500. Europeans have like 30 suits. We sew our own when they rip. Boots are $300. Hotels in Europe, training costs. It adds up quick.
"Hopefully the plan is to keep getting better results and someone will sponsor us or fund us."
Frenette then put his hand over the USA logo on his warmup jacket.
"Not them. Not them yet," Frenette said, disappointedly. "I feel it's going to happen. But you just don't know. It's definitely a tough situation."
But 30 grand? Sochi is four years away. How are Frenette's parents and a few sponsors going to continue to support him, especially since he plans to continue ski jumping in lieu of college?
Frenette noted how the USSA has invested money in recent years to biathlon and Nordic combined, and "it's paid off." Frenette was there last week when Johnny Spillane won the Americans' first Nordic combined medal.
"Someone's got to see it," Frenette said. "What it'll take to make ski jumping more popular in the U.S. is just consistently good results. Podium at Olympics. Podium at World Cups. Nobody knows about ski jumping in the U.S.
"Having good results here is making me want to keep doing it, get better, try to be the best one day and put ski jumping on the map."

Analysis:

I think this is so cool, i wouldn't be able to do something like this. I have way too many problems with my back and my knees even though I'm barely starting out in life! I would be more worried about my schooling but if it gets my attention and i like it i might just go for it. I don't like to lose, that's my biggest problem. If i am going to get some kind of prize, I'm going to go for it. I know its bad and everyone is a winner but there is only ONE prize, not 5 but 1. So good job to him and i hope he proceeds and does well in skiing.

Canada’s dreams of ice hockey gold on the line

VANCOUVER, Feb 23 (Reuters) - Canada’s hopes of a medal in Olympic men’s hockey live or die on the ice on Tuesday as the hosts, stung by their shocking loss to the United States, face off against Germany. The ice hockey-mad Canadians dropped goalie Martin Brodeur after he struggled in the 5-3 upset by the Americans and now it will be Vancouver favourite Roberto Luongo in the net. With Alpine skiing under way, Swiss sensation Carlo Janka led the men’s giant slalom after the first run. Italian giant slalom specialist Massimiliano Blardone was in fourth and another favourite Austrian Benjamin Raich was sixth.American Bode Miller’s hopes of a fourth medal from four races disappeared when he almost fell and then skied out on a cold and cloudy morning. All eyes will be on the ice at Canada Hockey Place, where the Olympic hosts seek to redeem themselves against winless Germany after losing to the U.S. on “Super Sunday”. Even with a win, the Canadians must face Russia to keep their gold dreams alive.Taking no chances, Canada replaced Brodeur in goal after the game’s most successful goalie struggled against the United States.LOOSE GOALSBrodeur, who led Canada to gold in the 2002 Salt Lake City Games and has the most wins and shutouts ever in the National Hockey League, allowed some loose goals and was outplayed in Sunday’s defeat by American goaltender Ryan Miller.“We’re in the winning business,” Canada coach Mike Babcock said. “And to win at any level you need big saves, you need momentum-changing saves. I think (Luongo) gives us a real good opportunity to win.”The 30-year-old Luongo—Bobby Lou to Vancouver fans—is a three-times NHL All-Star who has played the last four seasons in Vancouver for the Canucks. He was between the pipes for Canada’s opening 8-0 win over Norway.Babcock indicated that he would sink or swim with Luongo.“One thing about this tournament now, if you’re changing goalies, you’re probably out of the tournament,” the coach said about the knockout phase of the competition.Russia took the first of the day’s five golds in the women’s 4x6km biathlon relay, overcoming the German favourites who competed without exhausted double gold medal winner Magdalena Neuner. Germany settled for bronze behind France.Golds were also due to be decided in the men’s 10,000m speed skating, Nordic combined team 4x5 km relay and women’s ski cross finals.Dutch speedskater Sven Kramer is favourite to add a 10,000m gold to the 5,000m one he has already secured in Vancouver. Kramer is the world record holder at both distance events and winner of the last three world all-round titles.Canada hope to add another gold with Ashleigh McIvor a strong hometown favourite in the women’s ski cross, but she will have to head off former Alpine skier Ophelie David of France and other challengers.

Analysis:

I really don't watch the Olympics as much as i should, it just does amuse or get my interest. I would rather watch a movie. But i think its dumb that i don't like it when I'm a huge sport fan. I don't know if its the snow that i don't like or it reminds me of the time the whole school got into trouble that snowy Thursday or, if its just the idea of people all over the world competing for something valuable to the eye. I don't know much of the other countries but of USA'S I do know more than i should know, it helps make other people understand what kind of crisis we are in and what we are coming to in the future. I like hockey, i cant play it, i cant even skate, but i like the idea of sliding a puck into a net with a stick, sounds like fun. I hope USA wins, i checked how many medals we have and its the most but we have the most in gold too. It doesn't matter if we win or lose but it's better to win, i like Canada but not for their Canadian bacon, its just like ham to me!

Snow Blows Through Western Edge Of North Texas

It wasn't quite the winter blast many North Texans experienced just a few weeks ago. Nonetheless, mother nature gave a healthy dusting of snow to many cities just south and west of the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
In Stephenville, Bill Lowrance found an innovative way to scrape the collected snow off his Cadillac.
With plastic placemat in hand, Lowrance shoveled about two inches of the powdery stuff from his windshield. All the while, acknowledging, this isn't a typical North Texas winter.
"Might as well be in Pennsylvania or Michigan," Lowrance said. "I tell you, it's just amazing."
Amazing to have yet another round of heavy snow move through the area within just weeks.
It may not have had the same consistency we experienced a few weeks ago, this time the snow was wet and not as fluffy. Yet those who live in Stephenville said they still loved the sight of snow.
"I think they should cancel school so we can play in the snow," Tarleton State University student Karin Wasner said.
By mid-day Tuesday, a couple of inches of snow covered cars, tree branches and blanketed the ground. The streets turned a bit slushy, but the environment still created and enticing playground for some Tarleton State University students.
"Once my friends get out of class, I'll definitely play in the snow and stuff with my fraternity," student J.J. Griltz said.
An opportunity to remember and enjoy the winter of 2010. "It is what it is - it's mother nature," Lowrance said. "It does what it's going to. We just have to go along with the flow."

Analysis:

It has been cold these past weeks, or even this whole month of Jan. I hope it quits soon because I'm ready for spring to come and i can wear everything but my big jackets and scarfs. Its boring now, yes i know what snow looks like now and no i don't want anymore of it, if i would want more i would go to Canada or some place where there's always going to be snow. I want it to snow in December not January!

Charlie Sheen Headed To Rehab

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Charlie Sheen is heading to rehab.

A rep for the actor confirmed the news to Access Hollywood on Tuesday.

"As a preventative measure, Charlie Sheen has entered a rehabilitation facility," the rep said in the statement.

A source, however, told Access Hollywood Sheen has not yet checked into a facility and is still at home. He is planning to check in soon, the source said.

Through his rep, Sheen, who is currently facing charges in Aspen, Colo., over a December 25 incident where wife Brooke Mueller claimed her husband threatened her with a knife, (something he has denied), said his rehab stint will affect his job.

"He will take some time off his series 'Two and a Half Men,'" the rep's statement continued.

CBS was expected to release a statement on Tuesday afternoon about the actor's situation.

Sheen's rep said the actor is asking for "privacy" in light of the news.

"He has asked that his privacy be honored. No further statements are planned," the statement concluded.

The news comes just two weeks after Sheen's rep told Access Hollywood, "Charlie Sheen is not headed for rehab," back on February 10.

According to another insider, Sheen's rehab move is not a surprise to those close to the actor.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Sheen was officially charged earlier this month with one felony count of menacing, a misdemeanor count of assault in the third degree and a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief, as a result of his Christmas day arrest.

Following Sheen's arrest, the insider claimed the actor was heavily encouraged to seek help as the charges carry a potential three years in jail, and many people's jobs at his CBS sitcom, "Two and a Half Men," are on the line if he receives that sentence. Additionally, the source claimed, he was encouraged to to show the court in Aspen he was trying to seek help.

Sheen's last public appearance was at the Los Angeles opening of "The Subject Was Roses," a play starring his father, actor Martin Sheen, on Sunday.

On Monday, Sheen's wife, Brooke Mueller, left a Malibu, Calif., rehab facility after an alleged patient confidentiality breach. She was reportedly staying at a home in Los Angeles, but on Tuesday, a person close to the situation told Access Mueller is back in a rehab facility.

A rep for Sheen also confirmed on Monday that the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services visited Sheen and his twins with Mueller - Max and Bob.

"CPS went to Charlie['s] home as a matter of routine procedure," the rep said.

Additionally, the person close to the situation told Access Hollywood, the couple has help taking care of their twins in the form of two nurses and two nannies while they seek treatment.

Picture of Me and My Family

4th Six Weeks

These 6 weeks was somewhat different then my other 6 weeks. In a good way, I was able to accomplish more things that I needed for school and out of school activities. I feel like this was my best 6 weeks yet for many reasons. One, I was had time to do extra things for my classes to get me a higher grade average. I tried more in accomplishing projects as in adding decorations, and getting more points in creativity. I did more in my homework assignments. I always do them but I sometimes don't fully write what I need to say, I usually just get to the point without explaining and didn't try hard in describing what I was told to. I have a student teacher named Mr. Jimenez for my Spanish IV AP class. I was already having a hard time with that class, and I didn't think that I was going to do well, but I tried like I planned and now I have the highest average in there. Hopefully I will do as well as I have done and get what I need finished.
It’s hard when you have so many ideas you want to do but have no time for. I thought I would have time to make a homemade card for my boyfriend Jairo with pictures of us and lots of creativity, things from the “heart” but it was hard. I didn’t make it and ended up giving him nothing which I still have to think about. Church is going great. I still have Bible Study on Tuesdays, I enjoy going a lot, it makes me more interested in what God wants us to do while were still here. I plan on getting baptized but not right now. I’m not ready for that big commitment which is bad for me to say because people come up to me and ask me things that I didn’t know they would be interested in.
During the winter break, I had a lot of fun, I always have packed plans for the break because, the 22nd is my dads birthday, which as we Mexicans party until we have to go home (Because I would rather hear the word of God instead of drinking and telling everyone I love them when I don’t even know them, I tend to stay home and do what I think is fun.) then we have Christmas Eve. Great Another party! Then Christmas Day, another party, the 27th is my mothers birthday so on the 26th we just end up having other party! The 28th, 29th, and 30th are what we call a “little get together” which is a smaller version of a Regular party. The 31st as we all know is New Years Eve. And last but not least, New Years Day…what a weekend…what a break…what a life! So For this 4th Six weeks, it was just loads, and avalanches of fun.

3rd Six Weeks

This 3rd six weeks was more interesting to me than the other six weeks so far, i really starting putting my hard work and dedication to my studies and what i want to do later on in life, i know at times i can be lazy and not want to do my work, but i will start it and i will try to finish it, and most of the time i do! My outside life, the one that doesnt involve school, is also very different than usual, if you can recap what my life has been before I found God, it would be like i came from a different planet or universe! I dont usually care what the world has done for me, but i try to do something that will come back to me later, and then i would feel good about myself, i like to help, alot, and id rather you say thank you, than to give me somthing in return. Anyone who ever needs help, ill be there, like this six weeks, i help as many people as i can through out school, and at home, just to let them know that im there, i would help anyone, anytime. I studied for my academic decathalon class, i have ocathalon soon, and i need to be ready! It is a hard class but i can make it seem like it was just another thing on my to do list. My church life is also great. I can learn how to balance my time for school, and my time for God. And as we all know, to me God is first on my list, it may seem like i like school, school work, classwork, and homework, but it doesnt matter to me, i like how im doing what i do, and helps me concentrate, i can focus more.
I dont like to make people think that im all about school. I mean school!! Going to tutoring, extra credit, which i do, but i can have fun too, it doesnt matter how much work i have, i can get it all done and play games. I guess that is just the work God can do for us! I love my family, friends, and myself. For Chirstmas, i stayed over my grandmothers house, i was there with my family all day, and after that, i stayed over with my aunt, and younger cousin there at her apartment. The next day, we went to the movies, North Park Mall, and we went back to my grandmothers house to stay for the rest of the day, then i went home to my house so that the next morning, i can go to church like i do every Sunday. For New years, i went back to my grandmothers house, and stayed there till about 2am. After there, i went back to my house so that i can go back in the morning when everything went back calm. As i finished off all my work, before we went back to school, i made sure everything was right and turned everything in. Now i know what to do and not what to do for the next six weeks.

Bermuda Says Bloomberg Promised NYPD Help

(New York Post) - Officials in Bermuda insisted New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg vowed to send NYPD officers to help with the island's gang violence problem, the New York Post reported Saturday. But Bloomberg, who has a vacation home in Bermuda, denied Friday making any such promise to leaders on the British territory. In an interview with the Bermuda Sun newspaper, Bloomberg insisted telephone help was all he promised the island's premier, Ewart Brown."I talked to him and I said if it would be useful I could get on the phone to the head of our anti-gang efforts in the police department. He said it would be," Bloomberg said.NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said in a statement, "No offer was made or agreed upon to send personnel."Instead, he said, deputy chief Robert Boyce of the department's gang division consulted by phone with Bermuda police last month "regarding strategies to suppress gang violence."Despite the political problems sending officers could cause for the mayor, Bermuda officials clearly expect stretched-out New York taxpayers to help fight crime on their money-drenched island of 68,000, which enjoys a per capita income 50 percent higher than that of the United States. But Bermuda's public safety commissioner David Burch said the island's government "has accepted the offer from the mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, of assistance of officers."I can't imagine he is going to make a promise to someone of assistance ... and then to allow other people to preclude that this isn't happening. I don't think so," he said in a Bermuda TV interview Thursday.Burch's spokeswoman said Friday that he stands firmly behind his belief that Bloomberg promised to send officers.Bermuda's rash of four gang murders in December is barely a bad weekend's worth of mayhem in the Big Apple, which had 466 homicides last year.

Analysis:

It's just another one of those, he said, she said issues! If I were Bloomberg, I would be a bigger person and still help over there in Bermuda. Maybe Ewart Brown didn't understand what Bloomberg was really trying to say. Even though Bloomberg made it sound like he was willing to help, that wasn't exactly what he meant. So i would say that both of them are right, and both of them are wrong

NYC Man Charged With Training With al-Qaida

NEW YORK - A New York City man under investigation for his links to a terror suspect has been indicted on charges that he flew to Pakistan to get military training from al-Qaida.Adis Medunjanin was scheduled to be arraigned Saturday on charges of receiving military training from a foreign terrorist organization and conspiracy to commit murder in a foreign country. His lawyer says he is innocent. The 25-year-old was one of two Queens men arrested early Friday in connection with the investigation of Najibullah Zazi, a Colorado airport driver who pleaded not guilty last year to supporting terrorism.

Analysis:

I think that there is so much going on, especially with terrorist attacks. I would say that no one is safe anymore, you can not do the things you were able to do back then, there is so much to watch out for, that you tend not to watch out for yourself. If you could add up on how much money America has used to get security up, like at airports, and buildings, that money could of been used for something more needy like Health care. You can not trust anyone that you meet in one day of one week. Its too risky, and you could end up feeling regretful, and sad.

Teens Help Fund Locker Room Repairs

FLOWER MOUND, Texas - Cedar Hill High School’s baseball team has been overwhelmed by donations from businesses and even other students following a recent locker room break in.School officials said thieves ransacked the baseball clubhouse and stole thousands of dollars worth of equipment over the New Year's weekend. Damage included obscenities sprayed on the walls, puddles of paint poured on the floor and a smashed drink vending machine.A team spokesman said both the Twins and Rangers organizations have since donated money to help cover the $25,000 in damaged and stolen items. Players have also received support from the students at Flower Mound High School. After watching a story about the incident on FOX 4, Flower Mound senior Cassie Harwell said she shot an e-mail to her principal suggesting the school somehow raise money.“I know no one at Cedar Hill. I don’t even know where Cedar Hill is,” she said. “Just seeing the pictures of Cedar Hill and everything, it just kinda made me a little bit angry. And I was thinking about all my equipment for swimming and how expensive that is and I was like, ‘There is no way every single person is going to buy back all their equipment.’”As it turns out, the coaches in the two cities are good friends. So athletes at one school were able to donate what they could to help those at the other school.“I’d be angry if somebody broke in and dumped paint all over our new carpet and all that stuff,” said Chris Boyd, a Flower Mound baseball player. On Tuesday, other students will be asked to join in. The principal will allow anyone who makes a donation to wear pajama pants to school. The goal is to raise $1,500.“And, it’s like maybe somebody has a lucky glove that they’re not gonna get back or something and I just want to be able to replace that,” Harwell said.

Analysis:

Now would you look at that, their things taken away, maybe their hopes and dreams also, you can see that this country is getting worse everyday, the news is already depressing and then you have something like this happen. I'm very grateful that some people still have a heart, and do care for others even though they might not know them. Its people like this that make your day, and to have equipment that was stolen replaced is a nice late or early Christmas gift. If you do something big or small for a person who is not able to, it will come right back to you. For it is better to give than receive.

Kate Gosselin's New Hair Extensions Reportedly Cost $7,000

This week Kate Gosselin premiered her new long hair on the cover of People magazine, calling her new style and outlook on life "Kate Clean Slate." But if the fans who copied Kate's old spiky 'do want to follow the reality star's style lead again, they might need to take out a loan: Kate's new extensions reportedly cost a whopping $7,000. Ted Gibson, the stylist who created Kate's new look (and who was taped doing so by TLC), estimated that amount when he discussed the 20 hours he spent on Kate's hair makeover with the online gossip site RadarOnline, so we asked an expert to verify this. Turns out, she backs up Gibson's claims: “The stylist [Ted Gibson] was probably using top-quality hair. Hair costs between $500 and $2,000, and anytime you do celebrity extensions, you use the highest quality hair possible,” said the Neil George Salon’s senior extensionist (yes, that is her real title), Kacey Welch, who adds long locks for celebs like Kristin Cavallari.
Beyond the cost of the hair (she says the best for a blonde are Eastern European locks, which are the priciest), the application can be time-consuming. Welch explained, “It sounds like she got individual hairs added over her entire head, which is expensive because it takes so long to apply. And if her hair was short and she went long, she would need a lot of hair. $7,000 is definitely on the high side, but if he’s going to the client’s location, then spending 20 hours on color and cut and application, that all increases the cost.”
Stylist Ted Gibson also revealed the most time-consuming part of Kate's hair transformation: "I would say 15 of those hours were working on Kate, trying to convince her to cut her bangs,” he said. “I felt like she was hiding behind that front piece.” Gibson didn't mention whether Kate paid for the extensions herself.

Analysis:

This just makes me laugh. Can you please tell me why this is a front cover on a magazine!?! Can we get back to reality please, how are her children?? Do they have good schooling, health insurance, or even a family??? Yes they might be 8 kids but that doesn't mean that they wouldn't feel lonely. Its not everyday they wake up with a mom and dad at the same time!! Family is so much important than having heat put to your head to get some hair stuck on your scalp! Things like this makes me upset, and i hope the best for her children, i hope they don't get spoiled, and they learn the best in life, nothing is free. Kate knows nothing is free, i mean her extensions only cost her $7000.00.
